New Orleans bathrooms present challenges that generic shower doors cannot meet. High humidity, older housing stock, and the narrow footprints common in Uptown shotgun doubles and Bywater Creole cottages demand enclosures that are measured, engineered, and installed with precision. At Service Glass Co, every door is made to order to fit the opening you actually have, not a standard size that forces compromise. As a full-service custom shower door shop, we handle everything from the initial measurement to the final walkthrough.
Custom Shower Door Styles We Offer
Service Glass Co offers three core enclosure styles suited to different layouts and design goals.
Frameless shower doors use thick tempered glass with minimal visible hardware, delivering a clean, open look that works especially well in Uptown and Garden District bathrooms. Frameless glass can make a smaller bathroom feel significantly larger.
Semi-frameless shower doors combine partial metal framing with open glass panels in between, offering added structural support. This style suits mid-range renovations in neighborhoods like Lakeview, Gentilly, and Mid-City.
Pivot and sliding shower doors are a strong fit for tighter layouts. Many older New Orleans homes along Magazine Street and in the Marigny feature compact bath configurations where a swinging door is not practical. A sliding or pivot door resolves that problem without sacrificing style.

What Hardware Finishes Are Available?
Hardware finish is one of the most important design decisions for any custom shower enclosure. Service Glass Co carries polished chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, and brushed gold. Matte black and brushed gold have grown popular in renovated Creole cottages and Bywater lofts, where they pair well with exposed brick and warm wood tones. Chrome and brushed nickel suit traditional Garden District interiors. Our team can help you coordinate hardware to existing fixtures during the consultation.

Built for New Orleans Conditions
New Orleans humidity is hard on standard shower enclosures. Salt air off Lake Pontchartrain and ambient moisture accelerate corrosion in lower-grade hardware and cause standard seals to degrade faster than in drier climates. Service Glass Co selects hardware finishes and sealing systems that hold up in this environment, whether your home is in Metairie, the Irish Channel, or anywhere across Orleans Parish. Choosing a dedicated custom shower door shop means those material selections are made with your local conditions in mind, not a one-size-fits-all catalog approach.
Older housing stock also means irregular wall angles, uneven tile lines, and non-standard opening widths are common, particularly in pre-war homes throughout Uptown and the Lower Garden District. Custom-made glass is the only reliable solution for these spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is a Custom Shower Door Shop?
A custom shower door provider fabricates glass enclosures to the exact dimensions of your bathroom opening rather than selling pre-made standard sizes. Service Glass Co measures your space, cuts the glass to fit, and handles installation. This matters most in older New Orleans homes where openings are rarely square or standard.
How Long Does Installation Take?
Most projects are completed within a few days from final measurement to installation. Timeline varies depending on glass thickness, door style, and complexity, as well as current scheduling demand. Custom fabrication takes a bit longer than stock options, but it ensures a precise fit. Our team will give you a clear schedule during your consultation.
Do You Serve Areas Outside New Orleans?
Yes. Service Glass Co serves the greater New Orleans metro area, including Metairie, Jefferson Parish, and communities on the Northshore. Our team travels for both measurement and installation visits, bringing the same custom fabrication process to homes outside the city. Call (504) 241-5031 or visit our Northshore service page.
Can I Get a Custom Shower Door for a Small or Oddly Shaped Bathroom?
Yes, and it is one of the most common requests we handle. New Orleans shotgun homes and Creole cottages often have narrow or irregular bathrooms. Because every door is made to order, unusual dimensions are not a problem. Sliding and pivot styles work particularly well in tight spaces.
